In 2023, our initiative committee gathered over 4,000 signatures from citizens of Yverdon-les-Bains who want the rapid construction of an underground parking facility and the development of a friendly and environmentally respectful park on the surface.
The aim is to make this wish a reality by accepting the initiative in the upcoming local vote on May 18.
The CAPPA initiative committee reminds you below of the reasons why this underground facility is essential and will allow you to make an informed decision on this important project.
It is a NECESSITY and a MATTER OF SURVIVAL for shops, restaurants, medical services, and service providers (municipal offices, library, banks, insurance, etc.) in the city center.
Yverdon-les-Bains must TAKE RESPONSIBILITY as the CITY CENTER of 30,000 inhabitants in the heart of the Jura-Nord Vaudois district, which has 96,000 residents.
Public transport is not enough to MEET THE NEEDS of the district’s population. Everyone needs to be able to get to the city center AT ANY TIMES, whatever the weather, using the most appropriate means of transport.
The current parking lot is in a disastrous state. ACTION must be taken now, not procrastination.
The underground parking project at Place d’Armes will MAINTAIN SURFACE PARKING SPACES in the city center for residents, shops, drop-offs, and deliveries.
A well-sized underground parking garage will provide EASY and QUICK ACCESS for drivers, who will avoid circling around in search of a parking spot.
The underground parking garage will restore Place d’Armes as a FRIENDLY space for residents. The VEGETATION and NEWLY PLANTED TREES will help combat heat islands.
Around 1,000 parking spaces for cars, ALSO parking for motorcycles and bicycles, not to mention monthly rental spaces for downtown residents.
In addition to daily use, the underground parking will PROVIDE SPACES for the theater season and all cultural and sports events in the city center.
The Place d’Armes parking project is ALREADY FINANCED to the tune of 55 million francs by private partner companies, with the Municipality retaining oversight rights.
If the Municipality does not respect the CONVENTION signed before a notary with these private companies, it will have to pay study costs and a substantial forfeit, amounting to million of francs. This would be a waste of public funds.
This underground parking project will breathe new life into the development of our city, ensuring better attractiveness and mobility for its center.
For all these reasons, the initiative committee recommends voting YES on the initiative.
